I LOVE buffets! The Easter Buffet at the major hotels is way past awesome. Hawaiians are serious about Easter. There are giant tropical flower arrangements at every turn along with whimsically placed pastel colored eggs and chocolate bunnies.
The place was packed with people in festive aloha wear. A Hawaiian group plays a mix of popular Hapa-Haoles – the famous songs you may have heard- Sweet Lelani, My Yellow Ginger Lei, Waikiki.
The Brunch Menu includes:
Eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, sweet rolls and scones,
Portugese sausage, sliced ham, sausage, and bacon,
fried potatoes with red peppers and onions, both fried and steamed rice.
- Shrimp and Scallops in butter sauce
- Baked Mahi Mahi with lemon butter
- Mussels in garlic butter
- Beef Bourguignon…
A whole selection of various sushi rolls, Miso soup, a raw bar featuring oysters, shrimp, and crab… at least a dozen salads including green, egg, potato-macaroni, tuna, palm root, poki, tomato, and olive, stacks of sliced melons, pineapple, papaya, and strawberries two feet high, of course there is whipped cream and custard.
Then there are waffles with macadamia nuts and coconut syrup, passion fruit, orange, grapefruit, and tomato juices, oh yeah, and desserts: carrot cake, cheese cake, a white coconut cake, a pineapple cake, a chocolate cake, pies, tarts, cookies, and every kind of Easter candy you ever wanted – jelly beans, chocolate rabbits, chocolate eggs, and peeps… strewn everywhere to heighten the mood.
Did I mention champagne and coffee? I really HATE buffets. I am so full I can barely waddle back to the room to change into my suit. We are spending the rest of the day either at the beach or the pool. I don’t plan to move much.
I doze in the partial shade under a group of palm trees between the lagoon and the water’s edge. Oh, why did I eat so much? I toddle out to the water and float around a little. Hello, Honu! A sea turtle comes along to inspect me. Blessed Be. Happy Easter.
