She was finally going to get to go to Grad Night with Cheesy! She knew how much fun it was last year and even though she didn’t get to go to prom with him, she was still holding her parents to their promise.
Her mom had taken her out to buy Cheesy a graduation present. She wanted to get him an engraved ID bracelet. She picked out a nice silver bracelet and had “Cheesy” engraved on the front and “With Love, Kristie” on the back.
Even though her parents did not like this boy one bit, they had had enough of her rebellion and decided to let it go. That was until they discovered she had been sneaking out to party with Cheesy in the middle of the night. Her excuse was that they never let her go out at a reasonable time. They weren’t impressed by her flippant answer and talked about not letting her go to grad night.
She refused to believe that they would do that to her. After all they had promised to let her go. Cheesy bought the tickets. She didn’t say anything to him about the conflict brewing with her parents.
In complete denial, she made herself a really cute v-neck blue mini dress with a lace overlay. She had to admit she looked damn hot! She made sure to wear a nice bra and matching panties for the ride home. She bathed and dressed carefully to prepare for the event.
She would have to sit through the reading of thousands of names before the ceremony was over. But she sat waiting calmly for the list to be read. Each graduate in turn would approach the podium to accept their diploma. Every name brought her one step closer to Disneyland!
At the end of the ceremony she saw her dad approach and got a sick feeling. Her dad took Cheesy aside and told him firmly that he was not happy about all this late night sneaking out and he felt that he had to stay his ground and not allow Kristie to accompany him on the trip.
Cheesy was about ready to cry, “I already bought the tickets. One hundred dollars!”
Her dad got out his wallet and tried to give him the price of the tickets. Cheesy refused the money and went to catch the bus by himself. Kristie and her dad drove home in silence. As they pulled up in the driveway he said, “I really felt bad having to do that to that boy.”
“I hate you!” Kristie said as she made her way into the prison cell they called her room. It was going to be a long tough year ahead. As soon as she turned eighteen she was going to be out of there. “Fuck school. Fuck you! Fuck everything.”
Cheesy told her that he thought about her all night and that cute little blue and lace dress she had on. He went on vacation to the beach the next day and Kristie didn’t hear from him for two weeks. Finally she called him.
“So what’s up?” she wanted to know. ” Why didn’t you call me?”
He was cold, hesitant, “I met someone else down at the beach. I’m gonna be there all summer.” Then they hung up and she never saw or spoke to him again except to ask for all her writing and poetry back. He told her he burned it.
“Fuck him too!” It was going to be a long lonely summer. She spent the scorching hot months reading in her room and working tech on a show under her parents’ close supervision. This did not stifle her rebellion. It grew and grew until she was ready to explode.
“Fuck them all!” Her senior year loomed ahead.
