I am totally impressed by the Millennial Generation. They have all the passion and love of freedom that their grandparents (the Boomers) promoted during their Hey Daze. You might say, “Anything could happen now…” It all boils down to sex, drugs, and rock and roll, baby.
Sex:
Gays: We have greater acceptance of gays because of the MTV and Millennial Generations. Reality shows and sitcoms show us that everyone has a gay friend or relative. I remember my first gay wedding in 1973 – a lesbian couple. About thirty of us sat in a circle on top of a hill, sang songs, drank wine, ate cheese, hummus, Ak-Mak, and passed a few joints… It wasn’t legal, but it was a beginning.
Women: Looking back historically we can see the growing equality of women – votes, equal pay for equal work, the ability to choose birth control to postpone child bearing until it is desired. More women are opting out of family life and choosing careers instead. It’s all about freedom and values. When we have control over our reproductive rights, we become more equal. We have always had the ability to achieve our own orgasms in our own hands – just like men! A modern man likes his women this way.
Safety: Oh yeah, and hopefully we all got the message, “Fuck responsibly. Use a condom every time.” (Warning: some of the highest rates of new AIDS infections are among the retired population. Hello! Just because you can’t get pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t get an STD!)
Drugs:
As a nation the states are working toward accepting marijuana as both medicine and recreation. But the Millennials will bring us full legalization. They recognize that marijuana is much less addictive and harmful than other legal drugs like tobacco and alcohol. I smoked my first joint in 1970. For many Boomers who have been partaking of the weed for over four decades, the answer is clear, “It’s not a problem – legalize it, tax it, regulate it.”
Rock and Roll:
In this modern world artists, musicians, and performers of every type are all over the Internet offering their creativity for “Share” or “Like”… On with the show! The INTERNET – I fucking love it!! It makes the world a smaller place. Followers from all over the world are welcome! Isn’t it awesome?
The music of this age is off the hook with mash ups of every beat and sway. There are so many accomplished and talented artists out there. I wonder what Hendrix (That’s Jimi, ya know?) would do with the electronic gadgets that are available today? Man! He and Marvin Gaye would be Dancin’ in the Streets with the fuckin’ Millennials! That’s where I’ll be too! Of course, I may be using a cane, but I can still get down.
The world is looking pretty cool to me – now if only we could get a few little things done about Global Warming, religious zealots on all fronts, oh yeah… and World Peace…. Other than that shit, pass the pipe. “Get your own pipe, I don’t know where your mouth has been, but I know where mine has been… heh, heh.” (stupid little snarky smiley face) Come on! Let’s go! Party!!! I love it!
